Today the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Altitude Express Inc. v. Zarda, Bostock v. Clayton County, and R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Homes Inc. v. EEOC, which all look at issues around LGBTQ rights.

Terrie Rizzo, chair of the Florida Democratic Party issued the following statement:

“These cases before the Supreme Court are motivated by a hard right agenda that seeks to give those with power a license to discriminate against LGBTQ Americans.

“Groups pushing these cases, such as the hate-group called the Alliance Defending Freedom, claim they are just trying to protect religious freedom. But, the reality is that what they claim is religious freedom is an employer having the right to fire you for who you love, a doctor refusing to treat you because they don’t approve of your life, and a landlord throwing you onto the street for not meeting their narrow definition of gender. This hard-right agenda doesn’t seek to protect anyone, it is bigotry masquerading as piety designed to hurt LGBTQ people.”
