Florida Democratic Party Executive Director Juan Peñalosa released the following statement on the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals decision on Texas v. United States:

“Donald Trump and the Republicans’ reckless lawsuit to repeal the Affordable Care Act has put at least 3.5 million Floridians with pre-existing conditions at risk of losing their health insurance or seeing their premiums skyrocket,” said Juan Peñalosa, “The Florida Democratic Party will ensure Floridians do not forget Trump’s cruel efforts to undermine their health care when they cast their vote in 2020.”

If the courts throw out the entire law, coverage protections for 3,526,000 Floridians with pre-existing conditions would be thrown into jeopardy. The 5th Circuit ruling also threatens critical benefits guaranteed by the ACA, including maternity care coverage and the ability for children to stay on their parents insurance up to age 26.
