Three Years Since Trump’s Broken Promise on Protecting People with Pre-Existing Conditions

Tomorrow marks the three-year anniversary of Donald Trump promising that he would guarantee coverage for people with pre-existing conditions after CBS News’ chief Washington correspondent John Dickerson pressed him in an interview. In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, Trump refuses to drop his lawsuit to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, including its protections for people with pre-existing conditions. An early April POLITICO/Morning Consult poll showed that most voters –59%– say they don’t trust Trump on health care.

Florida Democratic Party Chair Terrie Rizzo released the following statement:

“Three years ago, Donald Trump promised he would ‘guarantee’ coverage for people with pre-existing conditions, but he’s delivered nothing but hot air ever since. While Trump insists on pushing a lawsuit to undermine the Affordable Care Act even during this pandemic, Joe Biden not only helped deliver that legislation ten years ago, but has a plan to build on it to give more Americans coverage. This anniversary reminds us that we need a president we can trust with our health care — Joe Biden is that leader.”
