Florida Dems Chair Blasts Trump for Continued High Unemployment, Failure to Act

Yesterday, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the unemployment rate in Florida fell to 7.4 percent in August while just half of the jobs lost during the early months of the pandemic have been recovered. The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity reported that there are 456,100 fewer jobs than there were in August 2019.

In response, Florida Democratic Party Chair Terrie Rizzo released the following statement:

“Hundreds of thousands of Floridians remain unemployed because Donald Trump failed to control the coronavirus pandemic, preferring to ignore the problem to focus on his re-election. No other industrialized country took the economic beating like we did in the United States — the difference was decisive leadership. To make matters worse, Trump failed to extend federal unemployment benefits to add to the meager assistance Floridians get through our broken system. Joe Biden is the only candidate in this race who can contain this pandemic and fully recover the jobs lost to Trump’s mismanagement.”
