On Friday, The Florida Democratic Party announced that staff has officially unionized, joining the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local 824, AFL-CIO.

“The Florida Democratic Party and the labor movement have consistently been advocates for working people.” said Florida Democratic Party Chair Terrie Rizzo. “By unionizing, the Florida Democratic Party is making history, and living our values. We are proud to have come to an agreement with our partners at IBEW that will ensure FDP continues to be a fair, safe and productive work environment that puts our workers and employees at the center of our Party.  And this agreement which we have been working on throughout 2020, underscores our commitment to working people, including our own employees.”

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 824, AFL-CIO, is recognized by the Florida Democratic Party as the exclusive collective bargaining representative of the Employees in the bargaining unit.

“The Florida Democratic Party is a part of the growing number of Democratic organizations who are displaying their commitment to working Americans not just in words, but in actions,” said John Parker, President of Florida Democratic Party Labor Caucus. “This is a fantastic step for Democrats in Florida and I want to congratulate Terrie Rizzo, the FDP and IBEW for their commitment to the labor movement and working families.”

Finally, the Florida Democratic Party hopes to set an example here in Florida and that other organizations, on both sides of the aisle, will follow suit.
