Marco Rubio Has Spent Months Helping Block The Appointment Of Ambassador To Fight Antisemitism

Marco Rubio, who has has a long history of failing to show up for Foreign Relations Committee hearings, has been part of a months-long Republican-led effort to stall the confirmation of President Biden’s nominee to serve as Special Envoy for Monitoring and Combating Antisemitism.

“With incidents of antisemitism on a dangerous rise both at home and abroad, a confirmed ambassador committed to stopping the spread of this insidious strain of hate is essential. Standing in the way of this nomination is a shameful new low for career politician Marco Rubio, who will always put his own political agenda ahead of doing the right thing,” said Florida Democratic Party spokesperson Grant Fox.

Despite widespread support from Jewish leaders, Deborah Lipstadt, a renowned scholar of the Holocaust and expert on global antisemitism, has had her confirmation stalled in the Senate for over half a year. Republican members, including Marco Rubio, have refused to agree to hear her nomination. When he was asked about her nomination in December, Rubio admitted “it doesn’t ring a bell.”
