DeSantis puts Reproductive Freedom on the Ballot

After the Supreme Court overturned Roe V. Wade this morning, Ron DeSantis built on his dangerous, ultra MAGA record of banning abortion by vowing to continue restricting reproductive freedom in Florida.

DeSantis already signed into law an extreme abortion ban, which goes into effect next week with no exceptions for rape, incest, or cases of human trafficking and jails doctors who perform certain abortions for up to five years. DeSantis has also restricted access to contraceptives in Florida while refusing to rule out extreme punishments from his own party like throwing women in prison.

Florida Republicans have signaled moves toward a complete abortion ban – despite its deep unpopularity. One poll found that nearly 70% of Floridians disagree with overturning Roe v. Wade and nearly 60% disagree with DeSantis’ current ban on abortion.

“Ron DeSantis has given every indication that he will move to enact a total abortion ban and further limit access to contraceptives as part of his full-blown attack on the freedom to choose where, when, and how Floridians start a family. His unpopular, ultra-MAGA policies make no exceptions for rape, incest, or human trafficking in a state that overwhelmingly supports the right to choose,” said Florida Democratic Party Spokesperson Kobie Christian. “Make no mistake; to protect reproductive freedom in Florida, we need to vote Ron DeSantis out in November.”
