Ahead of Looming Deadline, FDP Chair Nikki Fried Slams DeSantis’s Opposition to Medicaid Expansion

Tomorrow, Ron DeSantis is expected to move forward with purging nearly 900,000 individuals who will become ineligible from Florida’s Medicaid program starting on April 1. While this deadline has been looming for months, DeSantis has no plan to address the gap and has refused to expand Medicaid in the state – a move that could ensure these Floridians can still afford the care they need.

“Hundreds of thousands of Floridians are about to be pushed into a health insurance gap that exists because Ron DeSantis refuses to expand Medicaid in the state of Florida,” said Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried. “Instead of focusing on the critical challenges facing Floridians, like expanding access to affordable health insurance, Ron DeSantis is using this legislative session to push extreme bills in an effort to boost his national profile and win over the MAGA base ahead of a potential presidential campaign while Floridians suffer.”
