Florida Democratic Party Statement on Trump’s Visit to Lee County
Today, as Donald Trump takes his record of extremism to Southwest Florida, Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried released the following statement:
“As Donald Trump hits the campaign trail again, let’s be honest: his presidency failed Florida and we are still paying the price. Trump appointed the right-wing Supreme Court that paved the way to rip away abortion access in our state, rigged the economy for the super-rich at the expense of the middle class, and threatened the health care of millions. The last thing we need is his MAGA agenda back in the White House. ”
As a reminder, here are just a few of the ways that Donald Trump failed Florida as president:
- As Trump himself regularly brags about, he nominated the Supreme Court Justices who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade, paving the way for Republicans to criminalize abortion.
- Every single year he was in office, Trump proposed cuts to Social Security and Medicare.
- Trump made every effort to overturn the Affordable Care Act, which could have jeopardized the health care of over 1.5 million Floridians and threatened the protections for those with preexisting conditions.
- Trump raised taxes on Florida’s working class families while giving more than 40% of the state’s tax cuts to the richest 1% of Floridians.
