As we celebrate Pride month, the LGBTQ+ community continues to be a target of bigotry, intolerance, and discrimination. Governor DeSantis has cultivated a culture of hatred towards queer and trans people, and the effects on their rights have been chilling.
Under the governor’s watch, Florida has become a hotbed for conspiracy-fueled legislative attacks. Instead of focusing on passing laws that improve the lives of Floridians, the Republican-controlled Florida legislature expanded “Don’t Say Gay” through 12th grade, severely limited access to gender-affirming care for all ages, criminalized bathroom use, and gave healthcare providers a license to discriminate.
To the LGBTQ+ community, and especially to queer and trans youth: The Florida Democratic Party condemns any discriminatory legislation based on who you are or who you love. We love and accept you for who you are, and we will continue to fight tirelessly against those who are trying to take away your rights.
