FLORIDA DEMOCRATIC PARTY RESPONDS TO IOWA CAUCUS RESULTS
Tonight, preliminary results from the Iowa caucuses show Donald Trump with a commanding lead over Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley, whose finishes are still too close to call. In response, the Florida Democratic Party has issued the following statement:
“Donald Trump is an existential threat to American democracy, and he must be defeated in November at all costs,” said FDP Chair Nikki Fried. “I take no joy in watching Trump run away with the Iowa Caucus, but the only person surprised at Ron DeSantis’s showing in Iowa is Ron DeSantis.
“As a Floridian, it’s frankly been embarrassing to watch our governor continually humiliate himself on the national stage. Ron has spent countless hours and tens of millions of campaign dollars trying to run to the right of Donald Trump, but not even his custom boots could give him the lift he needs to be a serious contender for president.
“Ron’s obsession with the presidency is more than embarrassing — it’s had real consequences for the people of Florida. Instead of governing with the best interests of Floridians at heart, he’s spent an entire year focused on policies that are racist, misogynistic, homophobic, and transphobic — all to try and win over voters that will never like him. I hope Ron’s participation trophy was worth it.”
