Chair Nikki Fried slams Republican platform as “out-of-touch BS”

Over the weekend, the Republican Party of Florida announced their legislative agenda for the year, highlighting ten priority bills that they would like to see passed. In response, the Florida Democratic Party has issued the following statement:

“The Republican Party of Florida is a joke, and new leadership hasn’t changed anything,” said FDP Chair Nikki Fried. “Instead of supporting solutions to the crises raging in Florida — property insurance, affordability, climate change, healthcare access, and teacher shortages, to name a few — newly minted Chairman Evan Power and the Republican Party of Florida are still focused on their made up culture wars.

“The ‘legislative agenda’ the RPOF agreed on this weekend is absolutely absurd. They want to criminalize homelessness in in the middle of an affordability crisis. They want to roll back Parkland-era gun safety laws just before the sixth anniversary of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas massacre. They want to eliminate all legal recognition for trans people. Advancing dangerous ideas just to appease Donald Trump does nothing to help Floridians.

“When their priorities aren’t dangerous, they’re silly. They have all the power in state government, and they continue to use it for out-of-touch BS like a war on pride flags and pronouns. Imagine the Florida we could live in if the RPOF put the same effort into fixing our state that they put into protecting the mega-wealthy and bullying the marginalized.”
