FLORIDA DEMOCRATIC PARTY CELEBRATES HAITIAN FLAG DAY

May 18th is Haitian Flag Day, the celebration of the creation of the Haitian Flag during the Haitian Revolution in 1803. In response, the Florida Democratic Party has issued the following statement:

“Over 200 years ago, the enslaved people of Haiti rose up against oppression and fought for a new, free country and flag — actions recognized today as one of the most significant liberation movements in history. On this 221st Haitian Flag Day, Florida Democrats celebrate the Haitian diaspora in Florida and all of their contributions to the life and culture of our state.

“As both Haiti and America deal with deep political divisions and uncertainty about our futures, may we all remember the words inscribed on the Haitian flag  — “L’union fait la force” — and know that we are strongest when united in the fight for freedom. May that flag continue to inspire Haitians across the world to strive for liberty and hope in all situations.”
